GLASS AS A SUSTAINABLE ELEMENT IN CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE

Glass has become a key element in current architecture due to its ability to provide natural light, solar control, and acoustic control.

Recently, in our projects, we have verified that different types of glass, depending on their components, help us reduce the use of artificial lighting, as they allow us to take advantage of natural light without causing spaces to overheat in high temperatures.

Configurations According to Your Needs

Depending on our needs—such as the amount of light required or acoustic and thermal insulation—that is the glass configuration we should use. For example:

• Tempered Glass with Solar Control: Provides natural light and solar control, although it does not offer acoustic insulation.
• Laminated Glass: Provides superior safety (ideal for floors or facades with strong winds). It allows the passage of natural light and solar control, reducing energy consumption by up to 25%.
• Insulated Glass: Offers all the previous benefits and, additionally, is the champion in reducing exterior noise and maximizing thermal insulation.

With these configurations, we significantly reduce the use of climate control systems, which translates into electricity savings and a commitment to a greener planet. Furthermore, we achieve aesthetically pleasing, comfortable spaces with excellent panoramic views.

Today, advances in the glass industry have allowed us to face the challenges of climate change. It is no longer just about placing glass in a window for light; now its use contributes functionally and sustainably to modern architecture.

Thanks to technological advances, glass is no longer just waste, but a 100% recyclable material: it is collected and sent to production plants, where it is reused along with silicon dioxide, soda ash and calcium, aluminum oxide, and calcium oxide to manufacture new high-quality glass sheets.
